Artist Chengyu Yao created an interactive web-based visual game that serves as a fictional archive, documenting a surreal exploration of a school set in an alternate world. In this eerie setting, players navigate through the school's dark corridors, uncovering stories that reveal its unsettling history. Every image and text within the game is adapted from real-life stories of students aged 14-17 who tragically took their own lives. These true accounts, found through the Chengyu Yao’s research, were reinterpreted and woven into the game, forming a powerful commentary on the oppressive education systems in her homeland and across Asia. Through this work, Chengyu Yao raises a voice of resistance against the educational pressures that lead to immense psychological suffering, offering both a reflection and critique of these deeply rooted societal issues.
